Lindsay McLeod: “Once I Believed But”

Once I Believed But

I have come to accept that our
teardrop laid open in centrefold
would appear to all the world
like a tethered angel in a crate

being carried through the crowd
upon a gasp of lost loyalties
jostling the party goers
and spilling their drinks
so rude.

Yet still there seems to be some
misplaced need to talk about
redemption like it might
sprout a happy ending,
but I am here to tell you
sweetheart, it will not.
