Baseball Grass
It’s not natural pasture grass
It’s been bred in labs
to grow like an office rug
instead of a weed
deep rooted
heavily watered
intensely groomed
If left neglected
for months, decades,
unsightly weeds would spawn
within the synthetic roots
like the haggard lawn
of an abandoned business
It reminds us of heaven
because
in a sad sense
it has the same look
as a solemnly tended
cemetery green
where bad teams’ play
is perennially buried
