Jim Murdoch: “Beliefs (Three Kinds)”

Beliefs (Three Kinds)

I believe in thats.
Not in ifs or ins.
Especially not ins.
And just thats
in the past.

And I only believe
in things I know so
saying “beliefs” is
kinda redundant.

Beliefs aren’t reasons
Beliefs are feelings
masquerading
as opinions
that think
they’re
proofs.

At least that’s what I believe.

About the Author: Jim Murdoch is a prolific Scottish poet. In 2025 alone, he published 140 poems and wrote a further 200 to replace them. Most often, as is the way, his work winds up in webzines that fold after two or three issues but occasionally he’s managed to catch the eye of an editor in more established journals like Acumen and Stand.
